Description:
The project aims to strengthen the federation, Samahang Manggagawang Pilipino - National Alliance of Teachers and Office Workers (SMP-NATOW), through organizing and recruitment of teachers and office workers. This is a long term engagement between and among the federation, Lararforbundet and EI thru its regional office (APRO) that provides training and support to SMP-NATOW on its desire to be the strongest, largest and most democratic teachers federation in the Philippines.
Goals:
Increase membership of SMP-NATOW
Improve the financial status of SMP-NATOW
Popularize the federation both at national and regional levels
Establish network / open venues for social dialogue to advance the cause of education
Campaign for the SDG - esp. SDG 4 and 5
Activities:
Expansion, school visits
Skills training and development
Improving communication - website, publication, and advocacy campaigns
Mobilizations and lobbying
Results:
Increased the number of union members up to 21,000+
Increased the number of union dues paying members, an improvement to around 50% of its total membership
Improved working relationships with the government through social dialogues and consultations
Establishment of tripartite councils specifically for education sector
Crafting of internal rules and regulations (IRR) for the K-12 curriculum
